Warren County Wanderings

"Whoever said money can't buy happiness simply didn't know where to go shopping." - Gertrude Stein (1874-1946) American novelist, poet, playwright, and art collector

Along with pretty much everything else these days, holiday shopping is going to be different this year. We urge you to help keep us all safe by avoiding crowds, but to also consider doing your inevitable spending on the local level. Our neighborhood merchants, restaurateurs and artisans need our support now more than ever! For inspiration and specials, keep an eye on downtown organizations like Hackettstown BID, Hope Area Chamber of CommercePhillipsburg Area Chamber of Commerce and Phillipsburg Downtown Association, and Washington BID. The photo above - of the first snowfall of the season in Washington Borough - was lifted from Washington BID's Facebook page.

Okay, lecture over. Let’s focus on the positive, be grateful, and celebrate the joys of season!

Happy Hanukkah to our Jewish friends, and Happy Wanderings!

More Things to Do

This week's virtual Lawn Concert features Dune Grass, an energetic, traditional bluegrass band with a twist! Formed in 2015, this was originally comprised of Ken Zimmer (upright bass), Lorie Quinn (mandolin), RoseAnne Davis (fiddle), Peggy Gaber-Casey (fiddle), and Bob Casey (guitar).  After playing together for a short time, Ken’s life long friends and previous Mountainside band mates, Bob Gelormine (guitar/banjo) and Jerry Eckhoff (guitar) joined Dune Grass rounding out the sound and adding their beautiful harmonies. These virtual concerts are offered in lieu of the annual Lawn Concert Series that was sidelined in the COVID-19 pandemic. The Warren County Cultural and Heritage Division of the Department of Land Preservation, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, invites you to enjoy online concerts by the bands that were scheduled to perform. Find the performance by Dune Grass here.
