"A late summer garden has a tranquility found no other time of the year." - William F. Longgood (1917-2000) American journalist and writer best known for the controversial book Poisons in Your Food
Well we certainly don't want poisons in our food, so thank heavens for all of our local farms and farm markets, brimming with Jersey Fresh produce! Now is the time to revel in the tranquility of a juicy tomato fresh from the vine, a freshly husked ear of corn, or a succulent peach - just to name a few. The Community Supported Garden at Genesis Farm gets credit for today's cover photo, which states it has never used synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, GMO seeds or other agricultural practices that value quantity over quality. And speaking of late summer, the weather is beckoning for some outdoor time, whether it’s a trip to a local winery like Four Sisters or brewery like Buttzville Brewing for some tunes or heading to Mohican Farms for another funday Sunday with Family Fest filled with music, food, a beer tent, cotton candy, animals and a climbing wall!
The Continuing section is still overflowing with events, many of these “continuing” into September and October. Take a look at the September calendar as it's shaping up to be full of big happenings like a blast from the past celebrating Belvidere Heritage, the last of three Warren County Hot Air Balloon Fests and the 2nd Annual Grains and Gears Ride.
We congratulate the following winners of our most recent prize drawing: Crystal R. of Phillipsburg will be taking in a Centenary Stage Company production of her choice; and Amy S. of Washington and Amy C. of Harmony both won gift certificates to Well-Sweep Herb Farm. Each winner will be visiting these destinations for the first time, and we are confident they will have a great experience!
Happy Late Summer Days and Happy Wanderings!
