Shippen's first military encampment since reopening to the public last week brings the 27th NJ Regiment back to the manor this Sunday. Visitors can share in the experiences of the men (and women) of this unit during the Civil War. Soldiers and officers will have tents and offices set up and the regiment’s surgeon will be on site. Firing demonstrations will be announced and our younger visitors are encouraged to participate in the “wooden rifle picket”. Tours of the main floor will be offered by our knowledgeable docents. Tours will be kept to smaller groups for a better visitor experience. A children’s activity (“Ciphers and the Civil War”) will be provided 12-2 pm with the museum director. Shippen Manor has new information and artifacts to share with visitors this season. Free admission.
